 It’s not quite back to square one on emissions regulation in the aviation sector after Copenhagen meeting in December last year but the industries are left with no certainty over how they will be affected in coming years. With the recently concluded ICAO high level meeting, the industry is all set for COP 16, but the key question is will the meeting result in a common  framework for the sector this year?

Volcanic ashes:  Lessons learnt from the unprecedented losses and way forward for the industry

After the eruption of Eyjafjallajokull on April 15, the airline industry has lost more than $3 billion. It has hurt the prices of airlines stocks, paralyzed cargo deliver y and disrupted business and leisure travel. According to media reports, the disruption cost airlines more than $200 million a day. It is essential that the aviation industry comes together to develop solutions to minimize disruption, should ash return. Key discussion points:

• Finding a fundamental solution to such physical disruptions  - Is lack of research into the effect of ash on jet engines and over reliance  on computer modeling the main cause of the problem?
